We have the rare blessing of our own audience. We don’t rely on outside marketing from large Hollywood-owned companies to get our work out there. We can tell our stories our way, with no manipulation due to what some guy in a suit thinks “teenagers need”. We have our audience, our resources, our ideas, and sometimes, great companies behind us facilitating our growth. And we’re going to see how far we can take all of this by making high-calibre stuff that relies heavily on well developed, off the wall stories and characters that don’t pander to the lowest common denominator, none of which you see very often on network tv these days.
We want to show those in “old media” that there is a place for intelligent work in the mainstream and a place for intelligent women in front of and behind the camera, at that. But most importantly—in spite of our lack of budget, promotion, and star power—we just want to prove that a good story executed well will always have the last word, regardless of whatever gimmicks are being pitched elsewhere.
Holla.
I was writing a message to a friend explaining my and Tessa’s creative/business plans for the future and decided this really encapsulates what it is we want. Thought I’d share. x
